The Big Melt

TODAY IN LONDON, TW’s tipped events feature Jarvis Cocker, renegade comedian Alfie Brown, and a host of pantomimes, harlqeuins and fools…

COMEDY: Alfie Brown – The Revolting Youth, Soho Theatre, 8-11 Jan
Bold and barbarous young gun Alfie Brown summons the oblivious UK youth of 2014 to revolt against big corporations, fat cat politicians and their own ennui, even promising some LOLs once the revolution’s over. And hey, if you’re bored in the interim, why not bone up on Brown’s previous visit to the Soho c/o our interview with him. Details and tickets here.

FILM: The Big Melt + Jarvis Cocker Q&A, Curzon Mayfair, 8 Jan (pictured)
This preview screening of ‘The Big Melt’ – a live-recorded, live-scored (by Richard Hawley, Pulp, and a brass band, no less) BBC Storyville doc etching the history of Sheffield steel – is preceded by an interview/intro with its directors, Jarvis Cocker and  Martin Wallace. Details and tickets here.

FESTIVAL: MimeLondon International Mime Festival, various locations, 8 Jan – 1 Feb
Despite being silent, the art of mime still has a lot to say for itself. This year’s LIMF bill features a wealth of international visual theatre, circus, puppetry and illusion, highlights being the likes of Compagnie Non Nova’s striking aria on air and identity, a tribute to silent film, and an appearance by France’s award-winning Cocorico. Details and tickets here.
