CHRISTEENE: THE CHRISTEENE MACHINE
'The Christine Machine', on at the Soho Theatre until Saturday, offers a "gender-blending booty-pounding perversion of punk dragged through a musical theatre gutter" courtesy of its star, Christeene, described by the internet as a "drag terrorist" and by the press release as "a human pissoir of foul hilarity and raw unabashed sexuality". Wow.

I must confess to feeling ever so slightly scared – all that talk of dragging through gutters – but I girded my loins and sent over a mixed bag of questions. Here is what I got back: Christeene, unedited.

The 1961 movie of the least hammy musical of all time, 'Romeo & Juliet'-esque gangland romance 'West Side Story', gets a big-screen screening with a big live score to go with it; the Royal Philharmonic play Bernstein's snappy soundtrack as the film rolls. Details and tickets here.

The Garage will be spilling over with practically every comedian going over the weekend, presenting competitively-priced Fringe previews by Andrew Maxwell, Josh Widdicombe, Adam Riches, Nish Kumar, Casual Violence and improv pros Cariad (Lloyd) and Paul (Foxcroft) – and that's only today. FILM/ART: Dance Transmissions: Selected by Vivian Ziherl + Q&A | ICA | 5 Jul (pictured)
For the penultimate day of the 2014 Artists Film Biennial, curator Vivian Ziherl has chosen this programme of shorts dealing in the ways in which dance-type motifs translate to the moving image. The event's twin centre-pieces are the London premiere screenings of two new works from Shahryar Nashat, who'll stick around for a Q&A, and Karthik Pandian and Andros Zins-Browne. This heavy-going play by Scottish writer David Grieg, which is back  by demand at the Young Vic ahead of a transfer to NYC, centres on gay priest Claire, who experiences an atrocity and thereafter strives to understand the breadth of the terrible things she's seen. Details and tickets here.

Innovative theatre-maker Yve Blake creates an audiovisual fabric of stories, voicemails, images and playlists donated by over 500 participants in answer to the question,'Who do you feel you used to be?' Much-lauded public artist Martin Firrell digs into 'Planet Of The Apes's "particular corner of pop culture" to make 'It Ends Here', a maze of pitch-black underground spaces rumbling with 'found sound' and towered over by giant words, each meant to provoke thought on war, peace and the human condition. Entry is free, and visitors are given torches to find and map the meaning of the hidden texts. Details here.

THEATRE: In Lambeth | Southwark Playhouse | 10 Jul – 2 Aug

Jack Shepherd's slightly surreal 'In Lambeth', a mix of myth and history which imagines a meeting between Enlightened activist Thomas Paine and William Blake and his wife Catherine, is set against the tense tableau of the French and American revolutions of the late 1700s, the play has Paine fleeing to the Blakes, who for a time lived on Hercules Road in Lambeth, only to find them naked, sitting in a tree reading 'Paradise Lost', and speaking with angels.
