By TW Editorial | Published on Sunday 23 February 2014
TW’s tipped events TODAY IN LONDON feature new-wave pin-up Marc Almond, ‘Being Human’ script-writer Colin Hoult and woodentop puppet troupe Old Saw…
MUSIC: Marc Almond & John Harle – The Tyburn Tree, Barbican, 2 Mar (pictured)
A collaboration with saxophonist John Harle, pop dramatist Marc Almond’s dark and deathly ‘Tyburn Tree’ hangs its winding narrative on the works of William Blake, the story of Jack The Ripper, and London’s various other ‘anti-historical’ horrors. Almond and Harle are joined on-stage by a band and opera singers. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Gliobastomer, Pleasance Theatre, 2 Mar
This is the first (and free-entry) rehearsal reading of ‘Glioblastomer’, a new play devised and directed by Colin Hoult – in-house writer of the BBC’s ‘Being Human’ and other such sometimes serious, sometimes funny shows. Billed as “a story about faith, love, revenge and preserving identity in the face of oblivion”, its focus is a man and his wife who, when he is diagnosed with a brain tumour, struggle to cope with the memory loss, confusion and anger it causes. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Tomten, Greenwich Theatre, 2 Mar
Putting their puppeteering genius to good use, Old Saw bring to life this Swedish fireside story for kids, in which an old man with a white beard – a benign, Santa-like character – keeps watch over a farm, only coming out at night. Details and tickets here.
