THREE THINGS TO SEE IN REAL LIFE

Siblings: The Siblinginging Returns | The Playground Theatre | 17-19 Sep
As I am sure you are all more than aware, the rules keep changing and who knows what might happen next. But for the moment small numbers of socially distanced performances are taking place in various indoor and outdoor venues, so we will talk about them. The Playground Theatre has announced it’s re-opening and first up are character comedians and sisters Marina and Maddy, who emerge from lockdown with a show featuring some tried and tested material alongside new, isolation-inspired stuff. See this page here for info.

Squad Goals | Dagenham and Redbridge FC | 14 Sep-10 Oct (pictured, photo by Zac Cooke Photography)
“Everyone has football fever, but not in the usual way. England’s Lionesses are tearing up the pitch and making a real name for the female game. Lexi, who never had the opportunity to be taken seriously, inspires a group of school leavers to redefine the game in her home town of Dagenham”. This sounds great, an immersive outdoor experience that I would love to take my footie-playing daughter to! Book here.

LGBTQFA and JACUZII | Battersea Arts Centre | 16 Sep
You might be aware that BAC have been staging some shows in the open air of late. If not, be aware: they have a number of courtyard shows coming up. I picked this one to tell you about because I am a big fan of improv and a double bill of improv troupes is exactly what’s on the agenda for this comedy night. There are other great looking shows this week though. So once you’ve clicked on this link here to read more about this show, click on this one too and read about the others.

THREE THINGS TO STREAM OF A THEATRICAL NATURE

Elephant’s Graveyard | The Production Exchange | 17-19 Sep
And on to the sort of theatrical performances you can access from the comfort of your own home (yes, I know you might be slightly bored of it at this point, but at least there’s no travel involved and you know the seating will be comfy). First up, a digital theatre staging of George Brant’s award winning 2008 play ‘Elephant’s Graveyard’. See this page here for all the info and to book your tickets.

The Boss Of It All | Soho Theatre | 18-20 Sep (pictured)
A digital version of New Perspectives’ hit adaptation of Lars Von Trier’s cult film, with a cast led by  Josie Lawrence and Ross Armstrong. “For years the boss has tricked his staff into believing he is simply another co-worker. So when he needs a ‘real’ boss to help close the deal of a lifetime, he hires an actor to play the role”. See the Soho Theatre website here to book.

Blueprint Medea | Finborough Theatre | 14 Sep-14 Nov
“Kurdish freedom fighter Medea escapes the Turkish military and arrives at UK Border Control on a forged passport. Slipping through immigration, Medea discovers how to exist on the margins of London life”. The latest release from the Finborough’s line up of digitally released recordings. There are others currently available and you are allowed to watch those too: see this page here for info on and links to all of them.

THREE MORE THINGS TO TAKE IN VIA THE INTERNET

La Poule Plombée | Sarah Louise Young | 20 Sep (pictured)
Well, the digital edfringe may be over but we are always stumbling on the work of the people we found and loved at said Scottish Festival: in this case it’s the work of TW fave and Editors’ Award winner Sarah Louise Young, who’ll this week be staging a digital broadcast of her brilliant show with Michael Roulston, ‘La Poule Plombée’, via their Facebook page – tune in at 6pm on 20 Sep. We actually interviewed Sarah Louise about this very show a while back: read that Q&A here and find out about more of her upcoming dates here.

Jubilee Quartet | Conway Hall | 20 Sep
Who fancies tuning in for some high quality classical? Well, I am feeling like I would like that a lot, so I am going to suggest you give it a go too. Also, this is a Conway Hall fundraiser and they are so much worth supporting. And of course, it will be great: the excellent and acclaimed Jubilee Quartet perform Haydn’s ‘Quartet In E Flat Op 20/1’, Schubert’s ‘Quartettsatz D703’ and Beethoven’s ‘Quartet In A Minor Op 132’. Head this way for info.

Comedy For The Curious: The Autism Spectrum | Laugh Train Home | 20 Sep
And talking of TW favourites that we first discovered up at the old edfringe (we were, two tips back, re Sarah Louise Young), we’d like to direct you towards the latest instalment of Robyn Perkins’ ‘Comedy For The Curious’, this one featuring special guest Cally Beaton and a focus on the subject of autism. We spoke to Robyn about the show quite recently when she was staging one episode as part of the online Fringe, so read about it in the Q&A here and head this way to book access.
