And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

Liam Williams – Bonfire Night | The Invisible Dot | 14-26 Sep
You know how I keep talking about shows that just did a run at the Edinburgh Festival? Yes, well, yep, this is another one of those. Liam Williams seems like a bit of a rising star, in my humble experience of rising stars, and is clocking up those four and five star glowing reviews at an almost undignified speed. Exactly our kind of comedian: intelligent, dark-of-humour, and passionate about social justice. See this page here for more info and tickets.

And Then Come The Nightjars | Theatre503 | until 26 Sep
A couple of weeks ago we ran a Q&A with ‘And Then Come The Nightjars’ playwright Bea Roberts, ahead of the premiere of this, her first produced fully length play. The show went up at the start of the month, to loads of critical acclaim, and a week into the run is a great time to see a show… the piece centres on the effects of the foot and mouth epidemic of 2001 and explores themes of friendship and rural life. More info and tickets from right about here.

Beyond Expectations | Etcetera Theatre | 14 Sep
Just one London-based chance to see this adaptation from Untold Theatre, a slightly skewed take on Dickens’ ‘Great Expectations’, told from the perspective of the story’s cold-hearted female protagonist Estella. Sounds like a very interesting way to approach the text, and allows a woman to take centre stage. Which is always a good thing. See the venue website here for more info and tickets.
