And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

Eleanor Of Aquitaine – Mother Of Pride | Tara Theatre | 16-18 May (pictured)
I studied a lot of history back in the day, and still do, really. Well, I suppose I read about it, rather than study it. But in any case, I like knowing about history. One of the figures that I have always really enjoyed reading about is Eleanor Of Aquitaine, and I think she’s a perfect subject for a one woman play – courageous, indomitable and alive during a very interesting historical period. Another pick from Tara Theatre’s ‘I’ll Say It Again’ season, see this page here for info.

In The Shadow Of The Mountain | Old Red Lion Theatre | 15 May-2 Jun
“Rob stands on the edge of oblivion just as the chaotic Ellie careers into his life. They desperately need each other but is Ellie, who’s struggling with her own Borderline Personality Disorder, really the best person to try and help? Sometimes you can only save one person. And it’s okay if that person is you.” This one is a touching and funny play dealing with a relationship created in the throes of mental ill health, and may be of particular interest if you meant to see it when it was on at King’s Head Theatre in April, and didn’t manage it… see this page here for details.

The Drill | New Diorama | 15-26 May
Another one you might have missed/seen already, as this was on at Battersea Arts Centre in February. But it’s a brilliant show from a brilliant company and therefore more than worth a second look. Multimedia theatre makers Breach present another show mixing a variety of forms – documentary film, devised theatre and audience interaction – this one taking a critical look at emergency preparedness scenarios to consider today’s anxieties around security and terrorism.
