And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

Circolombia | Underbelly Festival | 24 May-14 Jul
“Witness the explosive power of thirteen performers, showcasing mind-boggling circus skills whilst taking terrifying risks live on stage. Coupled with live music and singers, Circolombia delivers world-class, gravity defying performances that you’ll never forget. Circolombia is no ordinary circus; celebrating diversity, voices, dance and spectacular circus LIVE.” Well, that sounds preeeeeetty good to me. And also, this lot scored a full five stars from our reviewer at last year’s Ed Fest. Book here.

Loyiso Gola – Unlearning | Soho Theatre | 24-26 May (pictured)
And talking of the old edfringe (oh, and there’ll be much more, coming up) here’s someone else a number of our reviewers have loved in recent years when seeing him perform in the Scottish capital. They’ve described him as “effortlessly funny” and “nothing short of hiliarious”, and so I believe the blurb when it claims that he’s “one of South Africa’s most-loved comedians”. See the venue website here.

Leave Taking | Bush Theatre | 24 May-30 Jun
“In Deptford, Del and Viv are soul-sick. Del doesn’t want to be at home – staying out late, 3pm-the-next-day late, is more her thing. Viv scours her school books trying to find a trace of herself between their lines. When Enid takes her daughters to the local ‘obeah’ woman for some traditional Caribbean soul healing, secrets are spilled. There’s no turning back for Del, Viv and Enid as they negotiate the frictions between their countries and cultures.” A promising revival of the excellent Winsome Pinnock’s 1988 play. See this page here for details.
