And today’s ThisWeek-tipped, LDN-based events are…

Letters To Windsor House | New Diorama | 27 Jun
I think this is about the third thing I have recommended that’s on as part of New Diorama and A Younger Theatre’s Incoming Festival, and I do not apologise for it. Especially not in the case of this show, because it’s the creation of one of our all time favourite producing duos Sh!t Theatre, aka Louise Mothersole and Rebecca Biscuit. Everything they do is fascinating, brilliantly clever and unashamedly quirky; I guarantee this will not be a waste of your time. See this page here for all the details.

Olu | Pleasance Theatre | 27-28 Jun
This is a show that was inspired by the desire to raise awareness of the shocking 2014 abduction in Nigeria by terrorist group Boko Haram of 219 Chibok schoolgirls, all but one of whom have not been found. The play focuses on Olu, whose father decides that life in a Nigerian boarding school is the answer to her lack of academic success at home in London, and tackles themes of identity, heritage, culture shock and displacement. See the venue website here for more info.

Cuttin’ It | Royal Court | 23 Jun-13 Jul
And here’s another show that’s busy raising awareness, this time the difficult and urgent topic of FGM. Possibly you know all about it, as this Royal Court/Young Vic co-production has already completed stints at the Young Vic, and Birmingham rep, and met with immediate claim when the script was first heard on Radio 4. It’s about two teenagers, both born in Somalia, who find they are connected by a painful secret. Details of the Royal Court shows, and other upcoming performances in London, can be found here.
