And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are….
ART: Martin Firrell – It Ends Here | The Vaults | 1- 12 Jul (pictured)
Much-lauded public artist Martin Firrell digs into ‘Planet Of The Apes’s “particular corner of pop culture” to make ‘It Ends Here’, a maze of pitch-black underground spaces rumbling with ‘found sound’ and towered over by giant words, each meant to provoke thought on war, peace and the human condition. Entry is free, and visitors are given torches to find and map the meaning of the hidden texts. Details here.
MUSIC: Austra + Blue Hawaii | Oval Space | 10 Jul
Estrella Galicia is pleased to present clean Canadian vibes via silky synthpop band Austra and, flying in from Montreal, ethereal ‘Try To Be’ hitmakers Blue Hawaii. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: In Lambeth | Southwark Playhouse | 10 Jul – 2 Aug
Jack Shepherd’s slightly surreal ‘In Lambeth’, a mix of myth and history which imagines a meeting between Enlightened activist Thomas Paine and William Blake and his wife Catherine, is set against the tense tableau of the French and American revolutions of the late 1700s, the play has Paine fleeing to the Blakes, who for a time lived on Hercules Road in Lambeth, only to find them naked, sitting in a tree reading ‘Paradise Lost’, and speaking with angels. Details and tickets here.
