And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are…
MUSIC: FKA Twigs | Heaven | 31 Jul (pictured)
Artist, ballet dancer and elite R&B-girl… from Gloucestershire, Tahliah Barnett, aka FKA Twigs, has been gaining some serious momentum over the last twelve months, which has made her a magazine cover star and bagged her a headline slot at Heaven, with still almost two weeks to go before the release of her debut album. Details and tickets here.
COMEDY: Jim Jeffries – Day Streaming | Brixton Academy | 31 Jul – 1 Aug
“Deeply offensive to almost every category of human being”, warned ThreeWeeks of Jim Jeffries in 2012, before awarding his show a 4/5 rating. But that was two years ago. He’ll have mellowed by now, right? I wouldn’t bank on it. If you want to find out, you’ll need to make your move right away, tonight’s show was added only after demand out-stripped the supply of tickets for tomorrow night’s performance. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: My Night With Reg | Donmar Warehouse | 31 Jul – 27 Sep
Kevin Elyot’s award-winning ‘My Night With Reg’ returns to the London stage tonight to mark the 20th anniversary of its premiere in 1994. Set even further back in 1985, this bittersweet comedy is set in London’s gay community against the backdrop of the emergence of AIDS. Reg himself does not appear, but is the lynchpin for the fragility of the friendships of those around him. Details and tickets here.
