TODAY’S FILM CHOICES

Nordic Film Festival, Riverside Studios/Cine lumiere/Prince Charles Cinema, 30 Nov – 5 Dec
Nordic cineastes collate a glacially-cool programme of Scandinavian film; as features ex-Bond Pierce Brosnan in Danish rom-com ‘Love Is All You Need’, director Thomas Vinterbeg’s defining Dogme95 drama ‘Festen’, a midnight screening of hairy Norwegian horror ‘Troll Hunter’, Finnish rock doc ‘The Punk Syndrome’, and an existential look at Danish-Icelandic artist Olafur Eliasson’s ‘Space Is Process’ ethos. Details here.

TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES

Korall Koral, Southbank Centre, 30 Nov – 2 Dec
Norwegian artist-musicians Dieserud/Lindgren serenade infants and parents in this oceanic ‘baby opera’. Guests are “coaxed by noise” into a tent shaped like a shell, where they’ll find myriad games featuring instruments resembling sea creatures. Tickets at this link.

TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES

The Arabian Nights, Tricycle Theatre, 30 Nov – 12 Jan 2013
American playwright Mary Zimmerman reframes imperilled queen Sheherazade’s various Islamic myths (‘Aladdin’s Wonderful Lamp’, ‘Ali Baba And The Forty Thieves’ and ‘The Seven Voyages Of Sinbad The Sailor’, to name three) to enthral a modern audience. Tickets here.

Julius Caesar, Donmar Warehouse, 30 Nov – 9 Feb 2013 (pictured)
A total-sell-out-till-performances-post-late-December, revered directress Phyllida Lloyd (her of ‘The Iron Lady’ fame) governs a much talked about all-female cast in this Shakespearian conspiracy drama. The Olivier-nominated Frances Barber is the play’s titular Roman empress, whilst RSC actress Harriet Walter voices the mutinous Brutus. Spare tickets are available here.
