A virtual TV prince in his native Australia, master of suburban stand-up absurdism Sam Simmons rolls into the Soho with a new show based on the not-so trivial pursuit of As to his many, many Qs. “You’ll learn nothing, but you’ll look at the world differently”, warns/promises its poster. Las Kellies, The Shacklewell Arms, 12 Aug
Fire Records signings Las Kellies new LP ‘Total Exposure’ (released 16 Sep) dices the band’s erstwhile basslines with slip n slide eighties reggae vibes that are all new, and all pleasing to hear. Prom 40: 6 Music Prom, Royal Albert Hall, 12 Aug
6 Music’s Steve Lamacq and Radio 3’s Tom Service curate a cross-station collaboration as part of this year’s BBC Proms, acting as hosts to folk darlin Laura Marling, one-time Catatonia star Cerys Matthews, The Stranglers and the London Sinfonietta, who’ll play works by Varèse, Berio, John Adams and Anna Meredith.
