Festival Of The Spoken Nerd

Rather than talk about it being Hugging Day today, since it sounds far too tactile a PDA for a Tfl-taking Londoner to bear, I’ll instead direct your un-affectionate gaze toward tonight’s comical and theatrical culture highlights. Which comes to you today with a jump to the left…

TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES

Alexei Sayle, Downstairs at Soho Theatre, 21 Jan – 9 Feb
Having eased back into the stand-up game last year, Alexei Sayle braves his first solo show in over 16 years. Specifics are scarce, but never mind… maybe Sayle’s blog has a clue or two. Details and tickets here.

Festival Of The Spoken Nerd – Life, Oh Life, Bloomsbury Theatre, 21-22 Jan
Shy sci-fi geeks FOTTN are back by popular demand at The Bloomsbury to give another masterclass in microbes, mammoths, maths and “unashamed meekness”. They’re joined by special guests and a live band. Event details and tickets here.

New Material Flash Mob, The Monarch, 21 Jan
A class-A mix of humourists – not least Bridget Christie, Josh Widdicombe, Tania Edwards, Jigsaw‘s Tom Craine and Sara Pascoe – amasses to bombard an audience at the Camden-based Monarch with prototype skits, character aliases and one-liners, final versions of which will eventually feature in each comic’s Edinburgh Fringe shows. Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES

The Rocky Horror Show, New Wimbledon Theatre, 21-26 Jan
Oh, my. Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s chosen ‘Jesus Christ’, singing ‘Superstar’ deity Ben Forster, takes a pause in playing God’s only son to voice Brad in Richard O’Brien’s time-warped musical horror show, as also stars ‘Emmerdale’ heroine Roxanne Pallett and ex ‘X-Factor’ crazy Rhydian. Details and tickets here.
