Comedy Theatre
Today in London: Saturday 8 December 2012
By TW Editorial | Published on Saturday 1 December 2012
Anyone looking to go to a pre-Christmas classical/choral/carol concert today is in luck; because St Martin-in-the-Fields, St Peter’s Church in Notting Hill, Cadogan Hall and Wigmore Hall, to name but four, are each hosting just such a thing this very day. But what to do after all that seasonal music? Well, maybe any/all of the following…
TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES
Comedy Club 4 Kids, Soho Theatre, 8 Dec
Clownish compere Tiernan Douieb MCs a comedy matinee minus any ‘adult humour’, as stars the whip-smart and ThreeWeeks-lauded Ben Van Der Velde and Rory Bremner’s sometime co-pundit Nick Doody. Tickets 4 the show bookable here.
Robin Ince – Happiness Through Science, Canada Water Culture Space, 8 Dec
The indefatigable Robin Ince scales a multiverse of scientific human and non-human phenomena, and all the while with a smile on his face. Share in that by advance-booking via this link.
The Forgery Club – Apocalypse, secret location, 8 Dec
An “infrequent themed event… generally ending in a disco” (my favourite kind), The Forgery Club fabricates a pageant of apocalyptically significant sketch, character and song-based comedy featuring Colin Hoult, Anna Morris, Nathaniel Tapley and Tom Webb. Details, such as they are (the location will be revealed 48 hours prior to the event), and all-essential booking links are here.
TODAY’S THEATRE CHOICES
Midnight’s Pumpkin, Battersea Arts Centre, 8 Dec – 13 Jan 2013 (pictured)
Cornish dramatists Kneehigh flirt with the Cinderella fairytale in its Christmas-appropriate new play, staging a grand midnight ball at which the audience are guests of honour (and may dress as such, if they so choose). Tickets for this, and a series of post-show midnight feasts featuring chocolate and jazz music, are purchasable via the BAC site.
