Daniel Johnston

So, London has a sparkling array of cultural baubles on show within it today; unusual on a Sunday but still… it’s a fact. Want to hear Al Pacino ‘talking to me’ (and you) about Al Pacino? Sure thing. And a charity night’s laughs starring Ed Byrne? You got it. And Daniel Johnston, you say… want to hear his greatest hits? Tick. Check this list…

TODAY’S COMEDY CHOICES

Funny Bones Chordoma Charity Night feat Ed Byrne/Marcel Lucont/Men In Coats/Tiffany Stevenson, The Balham Bedford, 2 Jun
Declining to take any R&R in the wake of his recent hernia, blithe Irishman Ed Byrne et al (‘al’ meaning faux-French sleaze Marcel Lucont, ‘nonverbal’ mime act Men In Coats, sharp tack Tiffany Stevenson, and friends) will have you laughing fit to bust a gut  – figuratively speaking, and, as per the night’s charitable premise, donating to the Chordoma Foundation the same time. Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S MUSIC CHOICES

Daniel Johnston, Barbican Hall, 2 Jun
Since his most famed LP ‘Hi, How Are You?’ is 30 this year, songwriting savant Daniel Johnston is staging a big surprise party for it tonight at the Barbican. He’ll play a ‘greatest hits’ set as a grand finale to sonic homages to his work c/o Willy Mason, Glen Hansard, Wild Beasts’ Tom Flemine, The Wave Pictures, Jeffrey Lewis, Emmy The Great and Teenage Fanclub’s Norman Blake. Details and tickets here.

TODAY’S SPOKEN WORD CHOICES

An Evening With Al Pacino, London Palladium, 2 Jun
Shockingly, tickets are still available for this ‘audience with’ one of acting’s all-time greats, Mr A P. Okay, so passes are pricey, but, saying that… so is Pacino. Talking (ha ha) to TW London, he rasps: “I am really looking forward to coming to London. I have always felt at home there. I consider it an honour to be appearing at the London Palladium”. Details and tickets here.
