And the LDN-based events the ThisWeek team is tipping today are…
MUSIC: Hyperdub 10th Anniversary Party w/Jessy Lanza Cooly G | Corsica Studios | 3 Sep
Hyperdub, the alt-dance label your grandma probably hasn’t heard of/will likely never hear of, invites the likes of pop oddment Dean Blunt, sleek R&B artiste Jessy Lanza and singer/rapper Cooly G to a) attend and b) play live at its tenth anniversary party. Lighting fires in the DJ booth tonight are Ikonika, Scratcha DVA and label boss Kode9. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Fully Committed | Menier Chocolate Factory | 3 Sep – 15 Nov
TV’s Kevin Bishop gives his snappiest NYC accent as Sam Peliczowski, the man manning the reservations line at an eatery that’s essentially Manhattan’s Chiltern Firehouse, only not real. Add in a parade of blaggers and B-list celebs, a tyrannical boss and Sam’s failing acting career and well, a trip to ‘Fully Committed’ seems all set to be one heck of a great dinner date. Details and tickets here.
THEATRE: Land Of Our Fathers | Trafalgar Studios | 2 Sep – 4 Oct
Picture this; it’s 1979, Thatcher lives (and is PM), and six miners are wedged down a Welsh mine together for a whole fortnight. The West End premiere of Theatre503 and writer-in-chief Chris Urch’s greatly acclaimed coal-black comedy stars ‘The History Boys’ actor Clive Merrison as wiry old Bomber, a man who risks losing his voice against the din of Britain’s changing social landscape. Details and tickets here.
